About This Service

Excess fat below the chin, often referred to as ‘double chin,’ is a common problem for many people. Surgical solutions such as liposuction have traditionally been used to get rid of this fatty tissue, but a new non-invasive treatment called Kybella® is now available. It is the ideal solution for people with moderate to severe fullness beneath the chin.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is a substance the body produces to assist with the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Kybella is injected into the fatty tissue beneath the chin, and it destroys the membranes of the fat cells.

Pre-Procedure Instructions

If you have not been prescribed aspirin or other blood thinners by your physician for the treatment of a known cardiovascular disease, avoid taking aspirin or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as Advil® or Motrin® for 5-7 days prior to the procedure, as these medications increase the tendency of bleeding and bruising.

Avoid Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ginko Biloba, St Johns Wart, Ginseng, and Garlic for 5-7 days prior to the procedure. These medications and herbs increase the tendency of bleeding and bruising.

Arnica, a natural supplement (found at any health food store) can be taken for 3-4 days prior to treatment to help minimize bruising and swelling.  We recommend taking tablets orally, but there is also a topical form available.

Avoid alcohol 2 days prior to the procedure. Alcohol may cause blood vessels to dilate and cause more bruising.

Tylenol may be taken 45 minutes prior to your treatment to help minimize discomfort.

Do not schedule this procedure within four (4) weeks of a previous procedure or prior to a big event.

Kybella® cannot be injected if you are or may be pregnant or if you are breastfeeding.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments do I need?

Patient will typically require 2-4 Kybella® treatments to achieve the optimal results. However, this will vary, depending on the amount of fat being treated. A single treatment consists of multiple injections and lasts for about 15 minutes. Sessions are generally spaced 3-4 weeks apart.

How long do the results last?

Most patients notice a marked improvement in their under-chin fat after 2-4 treatments. The results of Kybella® are long-lasting because the fat cells destroyed during treatment are gone for good.

What are the possible side effects?

The common side effects of Kybella® are swelling and bruising at the injection site, as well as some redness and numbness.
